FOSS wine solutions employ:
- Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) technology for rapid analysis of multiple parameters in wine and grape must
- Flow injection analysis for analysis of free and total Sulphur Dioxide in wine
Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR)
Simplicity, ease-of-use and speed-of-results are central to all FOSS solutions. With these principles in mind, FOSS was the first company to introduce a technology known as Fourier Transform Infrared Analysis (FTIR) to the wine industry. A particular strength of FTIR is that it can deliver measurements for a wide range of parameters in a single analysis operation – a role fulfilled today by the introduction of the WineScan Flex, WineScan Grape and WineScan Auto instruments.
Flow Injection Analysis
Building on proven FOSS technology for analysis of water, FIAstar for wine allows wine producers to monitor SO2 levels throughout production. It is based on Flow Injection Analysis – a microchemical technique to automate wet chemical methods. Using a ‘Plug and Analyse’ system with ready to use method cassettes, FIAstar is easy and safe to operate. FIAstar is available either as a single channel system or as a two channel system that allows simultaneous analysis of free and total SO2.
